2.2 Inventory marking
Inventory marking, which has been available in Axapta in previous versions, can now be handled through the dimension editor.
Using the Edit dimensions form for inventory marking
1. From the Inventory management menu, select Setup, then Inventory dimension groups.
2. On the Setup tab of the Inventory dimensions table, add batch/serial number to the Selected group of inventory dimensions.
3. Highlight batch/serial number, and select the following parameters for this dimension:
• Allow blank receipt
• Allow blank issue
• Component of financial inventory

4. Create a batch/serial number group. From the Inventory management menu, select Setup, and then Number groups.
5. Fill out appropriate fields for batch/serial number creation, making sure to check Manual under Allocation on the General tab.
Now when items are received or issued, the batch/serial numbers do not have to be filled out, and they are not automatically assigned. They can be filled out in the Edit dimensions form using the Batch/Serial number button on a received transaction.
6. On the Overview tab of the dimension editor, select the receipt transaction whose inventory dimensions are being copied.
The receipt transaction grays when jumping to the issue transaction.
7. Select the issue transaction to which the inventory dimensions are being copied.
8. Click the Copy button for the issues section to copy from the receipt transaction to the issue transaction.
The marking is complete.
Warning: The Copy button for the section where inventory dimensions are being copied to is always the button to click. Clicking the wrong Copy button changes inventory dimensions and cannot be undone.
At this point, transactions can now be recalculated if results are needed right away. Click the Recalculation button to adjust and update cost values on the issue. All open transactions for the item are recalculated.
It is recommended to recalculate inventory in general periodically, for example, once a day, week or month, depending on transaction volume. This is done through the Close and adjustment form under Inventory management/Periodic.
Splitting transactions
Transactions with settled quantities are locked, and thus cannot be edited or marked. Split settled transactions into a transaction for the settled quantity, and one for the unsettled quantity. Now inventory dimensions can be edited for the unsettled quantity transaction.
